“Creative Otherness ” : This thesis explores the concept of otherness through the discovery of an unfamiliar alphabet, the Hangeul (Korean alphabet) , and its impact on new graphic approaches in typography. Focusing on letterforms and typographic composition, it highlights the limits of my usual semiotic perspective and reveals the visual potential of language. My edition echoes this research. Through decomposition and overlapping tracing papers, letters are explored as forms stripped of meaning, allowing a purely formal approach. Perception is freed from semiotic associations, confronting only the signifier (the letter’s shape) without access to the signified (linguistic meaning).
